a good thursday morning. it is 4:30 a.m.. we're going to get to a check of your weather right off the top. christina, how are things looking? >> they're looking good. but things are always be looking good as we get closer to friday around here. starting out your day in the upper 50s for this thursday morning. it is chilly this morning in the north bay. half moon bay also in the 40s. an indication of the clear sky overhead. we are headed toward a warm afternoon similar to where we ended up yesterday and then tomorrow, we'll stay just about as warm by the weekend, though.

the story developing this hour. this morning u.s. navy planes and drones are flying over iraq gathering intel. the white house says president obama is still considering whether to order air strikes and has not ruled out anything yet. expect u.s. combat troops on the ground except for that we should say. top democrats and republicans met with the president yesterday. some republicans are questioning whether he is taking the crisis seriously. >> while the president flies out on golf games and fund-raisers, the iranians are moving in. >> we're very intensely vetting each of the possibilities. >> so far sunni militants have taken five cities and are fighting for six more. despite yesterday's powerful attack, iraq's largest oil refinery is still believed to be under government control. but an iraqi official said exxon and bp have already started evacuating their workers. some lawmakers say the

unraveling of iraq makes them worry about what will happen when troops leave afghanistan by the end of 2016. critics of the president are concerned there will be a resurgence of the taliban there similar to what we're seeing with isis. the war in afghanistan has lasted more than a decade to date, cost billions of dollars and killed more than 2100 members of the u.s. military. a man killed just shy of graduating from college in san francisco will be giving a posthumous degree. steven grim was shot and killed when he accidently went into the wrong apartment in his building. they say the 68-year-old man who shot him was arrested, but later released. he will be honored at san francisco state university today. the bay area mom accused of choking a boy at her child's school will be in court in just a few hours. she's not charged with anything yet, she's accused of storming on to the campus of the school in santa rose and granting the throat of a boy she thought had

been bullying her daughter. a private investigator says another student saw the alleged victim choke himself to create red marks on his neck. fwar s today a san jose judge will hear from a man who insists he is the biological father of audrey pot. pot is the saratoga teen who committed suicide after she is sexually assaulted as a party. michael wants to be included in the wrongful death lawsuit and claims her legal parents falsely claimed her to be her soul heirs. the three boys are serving 30 to 45 days in juvenile jail. a bay area music teacher faces life in prison for reportedly inappropriately touching through young students at a performing arts school. 28-year-old moobrian butts was arrested last week. he was a guest instructor at music arts studio while the studio's owner was out of the country. when the owner returned, several

students told him about the alleged assault. >> on three occasions when the girls are by themselves, it wasn't like there were other students in the room, this fellow touched them inappropriately in the chest area. outside the clothing, but did touch and fondle them in the chest area. >> butts pleaded not guilty on monday. the students are between 13 and 15 years old. business owners and police are working on a plan to combat what is known as the oldest profession for women one of san francisco's hot spots. between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 in the morning, numerous prostitutes walk the streets witnesses say they sometimes aggressive and it's bad for business and becoming dangerous for tourists. >> if you come in here from your wife and you're from omaha and you see rather obvious prostitutes, not exactly a fun thing. you already put up with the homeless. >> police say they want to clean up the square, but also want to help women who have been forced

into prostitution. all new this morning, investigators are trying to pig out if a fire in oakland was started on purpose. the fire burned bruushes in tre about the size of half a football field. several roads were temporarily shut down between court land and brooke dale avenues. the fire is several miles away from where crews have been patrolling the oakland hills. five separate fires broke out tuesday afternoon, all within a couple hours of each other. they think they were intentionally set. and the two others were started by embers. investigators say burn patterns suggest somebody may have even put gasoline on wood to get the fires going. investigators spent the night monitoring the shells of two homes that burned to the ground. would families are without homes this morning after a tree between them caught fire and those flames quickly spread. it happened on lantana drive.

homeowners could only watch. both houses total losses. one was operating as a daycare. >> at least our lives, we have our lives. and i think my neighbor's dog died. >> so hard for them to watch. remarkably there were no injuries. probably thanks in part to a man who was trimming a nearby tree when he saw the flames and knocked on doors warning people about that fire. >> i ran inside the house and got everybody out of the house. i pounded fire, fire. >> as previously mentioned by a neighbor, the dog who lived in one of those homes has still not been found. while firefighters battled that fire, another homeowner nearly got arrested trying to save his own home. joseph took a garden hose, climbed on top of his roof to try to spray his house down. firefighters threatened to arrest him for putting himself in danger, but he continued to

hose down his roof until the smoke became too thick. >> as soon as i got out of the house, i saw, i grabbed a hose and went right up. couldn't believe i got up on the roof so fast. >> his home it have some water damage and he was not arrested. at the scene, moreno told us he felt like he had to do something to save it. brushes with death a scary last several days. we'll turn to our micro climate forecast. you're looking at a live picture of san jose well before the sun comes up. christina, it's been dangerous, scary to watch from afar. here is a live picture of the bay bridge. what kind of conditions are you expecting today, concerned about more fires? >> no, actually, when we get our wind arrows pointsing from land to sea, that is when we have the drying out pattern. but this morning, the wind direction has shifted. albeit the winds are stronger

whenever you do have wind in the area and a fire breaks out, it's problematic. but i can tell you the moist ocean air will keep the hillsides from drying out. as we head through at least the next couple days. this is something that we monitor day by day because things do chain very rapidly around the bay area. so let's talk about thursday. we're so close to friday now and we have a good looking weekend shaping up for you. comfortable conditions out doors. starting out in the fifth headed towards another pretty warm afternoon. but, hey, if you're like me, you probably got by without having that ac for most of the day yesterday. i only had to have it running for a few hours. 84 degrees just about the same as where we ended up on wednesday. 66 for san francisco today, 87 in the north bay. as we head through tomorrow, staying warm. and then we'll start to see those conditions change as we dive into your weekend. temperatures will dive, as well. we'll talk about that coming up. right now, let's talk about your drive. you know if you wake up and head you out the front door at this hour, it's typically pretty

felipe 6 on avi will take over thrown from his father. he's expected to face tough challenges from the country emerges from a deep economic crisis. today house republicans will elect a replacement to eric cantor. it was the first time a majority leader has lost in a primary election. kevin mccarthy is considered the frontrunner to replace cantor. today san francisco archbishop is scheduled to speak at a march for marriage rally in washington, d.c.. this comes as local catholics as well as leaders like gavin newsome and mark leno urged him not to intend. the archbishop says the rally doesn't go against gay marriage, simply a pro marriage march. over 30,000 people signed the petition asking he not go.

aes beast bay leaders will state leaders to pass the switch kill bill. the kill switch is designed to keep thieves from stealing smartphone. the bill already passed in the state senate. it's scheduled for one more committee vote next week. new this morning, facebook is back up this morning after an international outage that lasted for about 30 minutes. people certainly noticed. they took to twitter to talk about the social media site's malfunction until it came back on line at about 1:30 this morning. the company is not saying what caused the outage. facebook has had some problems before, but this one seemed to be more widespread. the website and mobile services were down here in the u.s. and numerous european countries in parts of asia, i said i canndia. amazon is firing up the smartphone market. let's turn to jackie deangelis

at cnbc. >> we're watching the futures here. a little mixed at the moment after stocks rallied on wednesday following the latest fed decision. the fed says the economy has rebounded in recent months and that the labor market is improving although it did highlight it still remains slow. the fed signaling interest rates hey start to rise next year, but will continue to stay low at least for a while. today we'll get some data on unemployment and manufacturing. so watch for that.dow rising 98 points. close to dow 17,000. nasdaq up 25 points to 4362. that was a 14 year high for the nasdaq. meantime two u.s. senators are propose to go raise the federal gas and diesel taxes for the first time in more than two decades. congress struggling to come up with ways to pay for highway and public transit programs. the plan would hike the gas and diesel taxes by 12 cents each over the next two years and the taxes would then be linked to inflation. law may goer e makers are conce

weather. otherwise we're looking pretty good. i can tell you right now our air quality is not suffering this time of year. we typically do see that. the wind has been helping us out in that department. yesterday, we saw those winds drop off as of this morning, they are intensifying again. but i can tell you the wind direction has shifted and you're seeing all your arrows at this point coming off of the ocean which is that cool pacific air. let me give you an idea. out here over the water, the air temperature is like 56 degrees, maybe up to 57 degrees at best. you get that westerly flow and as that cool ocean air coming inland, it keeps our temperatures from soaring about so that that's why we'll be in the 80s as opposed to the 90s with high pressure still firmly in place. 82 degrees for the peninsula today, 66 in san francisco. and the north bay, 87 degrees is nice. cloverdale will hit 91, 90 in livermore. and gilroy, the same for you. but peninsula, warm spot is palo
